Downton Abbey: Season 2- Episode 4

*Spoilers* Well that was depressing. Poor William. I knew they were going to kill someone off, and I wasn't surprised that it was him, but still. My mom was getting a bit annoyed with him when he kept asking Daisy to marry him, because it was wrong of him to put her in that position. But then he explained that she'd get benefits, being the widow of a soldier, and mom forgave him. Hehe. Poor William, even when he's dying he's nice and thinking of others. Matthew suffered a spinal injury and can no longer walk or get it up which = no sexy time or kids. That makes him a rather useless heir. But we'll see just how long this paralysis lasts, shall we? And I wonder if Lavinia is coming back now that Matthew told her to get lost. I was quite surprised by how upset she was when he dropped her. I didn't think she loved him that much. In fact, he seemed to care for her quite a bit, too. I'm still not entirely convinced by either, but I suppose they really do l

Worth Watching: Picnic At Hanging Rock

I've been wanting to see this for years, and I finally have! This Australian school-girl mystery from the 70s will probably have you thinking about it after it's over. Set in the early 20th century, "Picnic" is about the baffling disappearance of three school girls and a teacher, who vanish without a trace while picniking at Hanging Rock. Did someone kill them? Did they run away? Why did they behave so oddly all of a sudden? We never find out what really happened to them, but it's safe to assume they died. It drastically changes life at the school, for some more than others. It is a bit frustrating not knowing, but it achieves the right effect. Perhaps it's better being left to wonder. It's more romantic that way, and finding out what happened might be disappointing, and make these human girls seem, well...human. Miranda especially is painted as an etheral sort of girl, the sort of person everyone likes and looks up to, and in at least one case, loves

Downton Abbey, Season 2: Episode 3

*spoilers* Damn you, Branson! Why must you be so unlikable now?! I mean did you see how controlling he was being with Sybil? Telling her not only how she feels about him (psh), but that she should give up her family and career to be with him? Jerk! Personally, I'm not seeing that Sybil is in love with him, although I assume they'll end up together anyway. But dang, I am not liking him. I don't like men who try to control other people like that, especially nice women like Sybil. Ethel ended up doing something entirely unsurprising, but it was meant to be a real cliffhanger/shock. Give me a break. I saw that coming in the first episode. It's somewhat hard to care about Ethel. Sometimes she cries and seems human, but usually she's just self-important and arrogant, and she ends up feeling sorry for herself. There isn't a whole lot to reveal in this episode. There's some "drama" with Matthew and William being MIA, and Bates comes back, which

Downton Abbey, Season 2: Episode 2

*Spoilers* Okay, it took me a week to get to this episode, which isn't so bad since the third episode airs tonight *smiley face*. So I'll just give it a quick recap. This episode is less than an hour, but it manages to have enough material to make it feel longer. There's hope for Anna and Bates after all, Branson has a devious plan up his sleeve that paints him as less likable than he was before, and everyone butts heads when it comes to running the medical center at the house, which is to be run by Thomas. This wasn't as dramatic as I expected. In the preview, they implied that Thomas is running the whole thing and that he's going to be a major pain, but there weren't any issues that I could detect. He wasn't being an a-hole, or at least not in a big way. I assume this will come later. William is about to go off to war, and he has lovey-dovey hopes for Daisy, who is being pressured by the cook to accept him if he proposes. And speaking  of "l

Downton Abbey: Season 2, Episode 1

*Spoilers* It still surprises me how much love this series gets. I remember watching the first season last year with my mom, and we both thought it was decent enough, but nothing amazing. There wasn't an episode that left me craving more, or had my jaw dropping, unlike other British period dramas have in the past. Again, I liked it, but there's still that lingering surprise that it became as popular as it did/still is. So here we are at Season 2. I'm happy that all of the characters are back, and there's already a Season 3 in the works. Woot, woot, anyone? Anyway, time for the unnecessary episode recap. It's two years after the first series ended. Cousin Matthew is off fighting in the war, and nasty Thomas is also out in the trenches working in the medical field. He's still nasty, for the most part. He showed some humanity later on, which was a pleasant surprise, but I suspect he'll go back to being a thorough jackass soon enough. Matthew is enga
