Christmas Double Feature: Happiest Season and Holidate

I'm not even going to pretend that I don't prefer a good horror flick to a romcom. The former will almost always trump the latter for me. That being said, I'm not so narrow-minded as to completely avoid a potentially cheese-tastic pile of love goo, even if it is packaged for Christmas. Don't get me wrong, I love Home Alone . Love Actually was pretty good. Klaus ? I dig it. Holidate ? Not so much. To be fair, Holidate knows it's bad. The premise is what chaps my ass more than anything: people can't possibly be okay without a date on the holidays. Whaaaat? Look, I get it, Christmas and all that can make lonely folks feel even lonelier, but the idea that it's sad or pathetic to be dateless is just...yuck. Love yourself, you know? Anyway, Emma Roberts plays Sloane, an abrasive twenty-something who is still reeling from a short-lived relationship that ended several months previously. Her mother likes to remind her of this, and constantly tries to set her up. H
I'll get back to reviews at some point, when life is a little less odd and hopefully less stressful. In the meantime, I've been rediscovering old favorites while sorting through my music lists.
One of the songs that I decided has to be on the soundtrack of my new book. If you didn't know, I draw up a soundtrack for almost everything I write. If the artists ever find out, I can only imagine their horror, but oh well. You are now part of my comedy/drama/romance/mobster story. You're welcome.

Feeling blah, so here's one of my favorite songs

Quickie Reviews: Horror Edition

My mouth hurts. You know when some part of your body isn't functioning correctly, and you can barely think about anything else? Eight days of oral tribulations, and the list of movies and series that I jotted down over the past several months is still sitting there next to the couch, ever neglected. My mind is half broken (okay, that's nothing new), but screw it. So here are some super quickie reviews by a woman whose brain is 99% focused on antiseptic gels and hydrogen peroxide mouth rinses. Here we go: Exhibit A When you think about it, there's nothing much scarier than the overnight collapse of a family dynamic. You thought you were safe and happy? Wrong. Exhibit A made me more uncomfortable than any other movie I've watched recently, which is exactly what it was supposed to do. If you don't like found footage films, this shaky cam movie might not be worth it for you, but the immersion into a crumbling family's world (and the ace acting to boot) make this on

Stalked By My Doctor

Have you ever been laying in the hospital covered in your own blood, dying and in pain? Have you ever wondered if this is actually a good time to take a new profile pic? Because girl, you just gave your doctor a boner. Get that phone out and snap away, you hottie! Starring Eric Roberts' teeth,  Stalked by My Doctor is the first in what will hopefully be a long and prosperous franchise. There are currently four entire Stalked films, and -don't yell at me- I've only watched two so far. Back-to-back. I started the third, but then my body gave out. True to its title, the plot revolves around a cardiologist who just can't seem to get a girlfriend. This makes him sad, and very angry, but he never gives up. After all, it's not his fault that these women don't see how wonderful he is. He dedicates a lot of time to this endeavor, and spends what we can only assume are hours upon hours on a dating site perusing the local singles. He acquires numerous dates, but fo

TV Review: Hunters

Is there anything more gruesomely satisfying than the bloody hand of justice? Aside from eating an entire pizza in one sitting while destroying a vanilla milkshake, I think not. WWII has always been a fascinating subject to me, both for the drastic repercussions of being on the winning -or losing- side, and the violent reminder of what humanity is capable of when the wrong people gain power. It's a lesson that should never be forgotten. 74 years after it ended, it's still relevant. Hatred and bigotry have not gone away, and people are still terrible. Anyway, let's kill some Nazis. It's 1977. Our story begins with a Nazi living as an American politician, and quite convincingly so. As we always want to believe, evil does not go undiscovered forever, and he is suddenly called out for the monster he is. The tone has now been set for Hunters. Enter Jonah (Logan Lerman) , a young adult who doesn't quite know how to navigate life. His grandmother is a holocaust sur
